2010 Internship Award

We are proud to announce the recipient of our 2010 Internship award to Chaffee People's Clinic and Buena Vista High School student Catelyn Wagner.  Catelyn has demonstrated interest and ability in the health care field and will be working this summer in all areas of the People's Clinic gaining experience and knowlege in this much-needed service to our community.  Catelyn will be paid a stipend for her services throughout the summer.

Congratulations Catelyn and Chaffee People's Clinic!

Here is how Catelyn described her experience:

While working at Chaffee People's Clinic, I accomplished many tasks that helped better organize the clinic. This internship also helped me in my decision about a future in the medical field. At Chaffee People's Clinic, I completed many administrative tasks.  For example, I copied charts, organized book shelves, created spreadsheets for better organization, and helped inventory the Salida clinic location. Along with those tasks, I also learned how the clinic's database works. I learned how to input data from both survey forms and visit charge sheets. I have pulled the monthly report for the month of June and have decided to continue to enter data once or twice a month.

I also had the unique opportunity to set in on many patient visits. This was especially exciting to me to see how a clinic operates from the front desk to the back office. Chaffee People s Clinic goes beyond just treating patients chronic or acute health needs, they also help the patients cope with many daily issues that you and I take for granted. I was able to see what doctors look for when diagnosing a patient. I got to watch the nurses do what they do to prepare the patient for the doctors, for example, taking blood pressures, temperatures, oxygen saturation levels, and the patients medical histories.

The nurses at the clinic were kind enough to teach me how to take a blood pressure and temperature. Some patients allowed me to take their vital signs. The patients let me listen to their lungs just like the health care professionals do. I truly enjoyed this internship this summer. In fact I had so much fun that I have decided that I want to be a nurse.  I don t think it could have been any better. Overall, this internship was a wonderful opportunity for both the clinic and my self.

Thank you
